Geography Curriculum Overview.
Geography Skills Progression Ladder.
At Hinckley Parks Primary School, the intent of the geography curriculum is to inspire children to become geographers and to foster children’s sense of wonder and beauty of the world around them. The aim of our geography curriculum is to offer children the opportunity to meet the three threshold concepts in geography, these are:
• To investigate places - asking key questions, identifying key features of a location, using maps,
atlases and globes, name and locating and identifying key characteristics of countries, continents
and oceans and using simple fieldwork
• To investigate patterns – understanding geographical similarities and differences through studying
human and physical features and identifying seasonal and daily weather patterns.
• To communicate geographically – using basic geographical vocabulary to refer to key physical and human features, to use compass directions and locational language and to devise simple maps and use simple grid references.
