The Hinckley Parks Curriculum
Our aim is to deliver a learning experience that is broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated to provide appropriate challenge for pupils of all abilities, thus leading to academic success. Our bespoke curriculum, designed for sustained mastery, is relevant to the needs of our particular community with an emphasis on retention of key learning facts which pupils can then build upon, developing a broad web of understanding both within and between subject areas. We want to create caring, confident and curious children who are inspired to follow their dreams, with a good enough understanding of how to keep themselves safe both in their everyday life through forming positive relationships, and also online. We aim to build resilience, and plan in opportunities for our pupils to become creative, critical thinkers. Children are actively encouraged to follow their passions whilst becoming holistic learners, well-equipped to reach their full potential. One of our key approaches to teaching is to encourage pupils to challenge themselves and not be afraid to make mistakes along the way. Our overarching end goal is for pupils to leave the school achieving well academically, however a further long-term measure of the success of our curriculum is that it helps our pupils develop into well rounded individuals who embody our values and carry with them the knowledge, skills and attitudes which will make them valuable future citizens.
Oracy
Hinckley Parks is a place where everyone has a voice which is valued and listened to. We believe that oracy is crucial to social mobility, empowering all students to succeed in school and life beyond. Staff set high expectations by modelling the correct use of oracy to the children, and plan in regular opportunities for oracy across the breadth of the curriculum. We deliberately and explicitly teach children to talk for different purposes and a variety of audiences, focussing on the 4 Voice 21 Oracy Framework strands of physical, cognitive, linguistic and social & emotional skills. We inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and to use discussion to communicate and further their learning. Pupils develop and deepen their subject knowledge and understanding through talk in the classroom, which has been planned, designed, modelled, scaffolded and structured to enable them to learn the skills needed to talk effectively.
